Volunteer

Volunteer

We are looking for volunteers to assist with outreach and education. If you come from a drug-using community, we consider your experience extremely valuable and will not discriminate against you because of current or past drug use.

Greeter/Navigator

Purpose: To welcome clients and track the order in which clients arrive to receive services. This person will notify relevant staff and volunteers who is next once the previous client has been served.

Needed help from volunteers will include:

  • Creating a welcoming environment.
  • Interacting with clients.
  • Handing out necessary forms and paperwork.
  • Making sure clients get to the next indicated service provider (Testing, AOD Counselor, Pharmacy, Medical Provider).

Expediter

Purpose: To gather the relevant materials and supplies for clients while the Intervention Specialist is working with the clients.

Needed help from volunteers will include:

  • Recording amount and types of supplies dispensed.
  • Collecting the specific materials to give to the client after the interview.
  • Notifying staff when materials are running low.
  • Restocking when supplies are low.

Intervention Specialist

Purpose: To engage clients in the program, provide them information/education, and support their interest in safe injection and disease prevention.

Needed help from volunteers will include:

  • Leading a conversation with clients in a person-centered, non-judgmental manner, that helps the client identify current needs surrounding safe injection supplies, testing, AOD Counseling, medical care, and overdose prevention.
  • Collecting data from clients during the interview
  • For clients that have been in the program more than 30 days, lead a conversation that engages the client in self-assessing risky behaviors and identifying small changes that can lead to better health outcomes using Motivational Interviewing techniques and the principles of harm reduction.

Other Opportunities

We need periodic help building safe injection kits. In addition, we have community clean up days 3-4 times per year.
